“Film for Her” captures clear, intimate moments of a life and gives the reader an up-close look. It reads like a rose-colored diary, or a handful of dreams- it romanticizes beautiful, hopeful, and tragic memories. The book is a patchwork of notes written on hotel stationery, compelling film photography, endearing letters, and honest words. If you have a nostalgic bone in your body, you’ll appreciate “Film for Her”. This is Carloto’s second published book, following “Flux”. The poems and short stories vary in subject matter, and a few struck me for their level of emotional honesty. “Orphan’s Lullaby” was my favorite for that reason. It openly explores the fear of passing time and losing loved ones. Carloto really attempts to wear her heart on her sleeve and that comes across in “Film for Her”. Through her writing about feeling lonely, it helps make us all feel a little less alone.
